Note di copertina
On the sunny shores of the Mediterranean it’s Riccardo Rauchi and his little band who keep the International Set laughing and dancing till dawn. And here’s the sort of great entertaiment that does it!
Sunnily nesting on the edge of the blue Mediteranean, and insulated by mountains from harsh European winters, there sparkles a vacationer’s paradine on the Italian Riviera, San Remo. This miniature city boasts fine theatres, hotels, recreation areas (including the famous “Campo Golf degli Ulivi”, or “Olive Tree Golf Course”) and a beautiful yacht harbor – as well as its famous Casino.
One of the highlights of the summer fun season is a pop music festival where composers compete for prizes with their mew songs, and Italy’s top popular artists draw huge numbers of fans.
But throughout the year there is great entertaiment in San Remo in the Casino and is clubs. And among the most sensational groups to appear there is the small band fronted by Italy’s greates saxist, Riccardo Rauchi.
Pop music and show business have been in Riccardo’s blood from youth. After the war he started playing in bands and on radio, and from 1953 to 1957 he played with the great Renato Carosone band. Since he formed his own combo (he opened at the “Marocco” of Milan) he has toured Europe and played several extended engagements like Casino at San Remo.
Although Riccardo’s combo is small, it offers big entertaiment, raging from rocking American rythm (Notte Lunga Notte) and his own special variety of shuffle beat (Aiuto) to swingy continental ballads (Carina) and foot-warming latin rythms (Mambo Mono and Non So Cos’è). This album includes examples of the surprises he often throws in the Neapolitan novelty Tammuriata Nera and the tender, romantic ballad for that goodnight moment, Ci Vediamo Domani.
The star of the gruop is Riccardo’s cool, bright alto sax, and with a variety of vocal styles, Riccardo’s band offers the wildest combination of jazz and high-jinks, of savagery and sophistication on the Riviera.
